Fast Primes; Lifelong Friends
2024 · 21 November 2024
Despite the continued development of zoom lenses and the technological marvels they have become with the advancement in glass technologies, computer aided design and firmware correction of aberrations, to prove high performance, faster aperture optics, there comes a time when only that life long friend the super fast prime will do

Seasons Greetings
2024 · 31 October 2024
It's that time again; Christmas! In October! The retailers delight and the consumers nightmare. Mind you we photographers quite like it for the opportunity to snap the seasonal illuminations with a bit of dark light technique to the fore.

X-Trans
2024 · 28 October 2024
Fujifilms' X-Trans CMOS sensor produces high quality images with rich colour, tonality and dimensionality using a unique colour filter array that suppresses moiré and false colours without an optical low-pass filter whilst achieving high resolution comparable to 35 mm full size sensors. Maybe?

Recurrent Nature
2024 · 17 October 2024
As the seasons go round it's once again that time of year, beloved by photographers in the northern hemisphere, Autumn. Season of the glorious colourful change in the leaves of the deciduous trees, of the spectacular display of reds, golds, yellows and bronzes as the leaves begin to fall, the presage of Winter.

Then There Were Two
2024 · 13 October 2024
I have just acquired a second Nikon F80D 35mm film camera body, this time in silver finish to sit along side my black finish one. Why? Well read on to find out more...

Trees
2024 · 04 October 2024
I like photographing trees, through the stages of their lives and through the turning of the seasons. To us humans they are powerful symbols of growth, death and rebirth as well as eternity, immortality and fertility. They are glorious things and good for our sense of well being.

I still ❤️ my G2
2024 · 25 September 2024
Twenty four years on, I still love my Contax G2 electronic rangefinder 35mm film camera outfit. With a body and lenses wrapped in titanium, a clever combination electronic rangefinder plus an exceptional set of Zeiss prime lenses, the G2 system has not been equalled in all the long years since its introduction. It remains peerless.

85
2024 · 18 September 2024
Turns out one of my favourite lenses to use with my F80 film camera has become my 85mm f1.8. This so called portrait or short telephoto lens seems to fit with my "minds eye" vision which often tends to mentally crop out the near foreground of a scene to focus in on a subject.

I Loathe Post Processing
2024 · 11 September 2024
I loathe post processing, adjusting settings, moving sliders back and forth, masking, zooming in and out, spending endless hours editing and previewing images in front of a computer screen is a huge pain. It is one contributing factor as to why I don't use digital much and continue to use mostly film for my photography.
