Regretful Longing

I had dug out some go my good old film camera and some colour negative film to go with them in preparation for a photo shoot and was hit with a wave of nostalgia, of a wistful longing that all photography was still like this and that digital had never happened.

Photographs have a powerful ability to trigger emotional responses and in this case this one generated a yearning for the past, for "real" photography when scenes like this would have been the norm.

There was a feeling of regret that things had changed so much and that many (most) people would not fully recognise what they were looking at. There was a time when something like this would have been a familiar sight to all photographers but no longer.

Looking at this lot made me feel like I had come home after a bit of an absence. I guess it's a mild form of homesickness the cure for which is renewing contact with loved ones, in this case my beloved film camera gear.
