Moving On

 ... Journal Entry

2025 is going to be a year for moving on. Having recently tried and tested the Fujifilm X-Trans system and decided to make the transition to it, things have been busy building a new small APS-C Fuji X outfit and disposing of my large collection of micro four thirds gear acquired over the long years as a MFT devotee.

I won't bore you with the details of the X-Trans system and the X-T50 I acquired to test it which you can find here, but suffice it to say that in particular the compactness of the camera, its film simulation capabilities, 40mp X-Trans sensor, inclusion of subject detection autofocus and its classic film camera handling won me over.

With the acquisition of a Fujinon XF 70-300mm f4-5.6 R LM OIS WR in the Boxing Day sales I have now completed a five lens outfit to go with my X-T50 body as follows:

  • Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 DG DN | Contemporary
  • Fujinon XF 16-50mm f2.8-4.8 R LM WR
  • Fujinon XF 23mm f1.4 R LM WR
  • Sigma 56mm f1.4 DC DN | Contemporary
  • Fujinon XF 70-300mm f4-5.6 R LM OIS WR

Three zooms, two fast primes and possibly at some time in the future a 1.4x converter to go with the Fujinon XF 70-300mm (or maybe even the 2x converter).

Finally, have I missed my OM System cameras and lenses since I disposed of them? Well actually, not all. The images coming off the X-T50 are so much of an improvement in the detail they capture and in giving me the ability to drill in to them and the handing of the camera with its film modes and traditional layout so nice that they have motivated me to transition away very quickly.

What were once the state of the art old compact bodied Olympus MFT System cameras have now become, for me, sadly a case of what might have been. So, off with old and on with the new.
